Our Faith

The Global Methodist Church maintains its steadfast commitment to advancing its mission, which involves proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ and serving its community of more than 4,501 churches and congregational members worldwide. Rooted in the teachings of Jesus Christ and the historic confessions of the Christian faith proclaimed over the past two thousand years, The Global Methodist Church remains dedicated to upholding its denomination’s strong foundation. As a Wesleyan expression of Christianity, the Global Methodist Church professes the Christian faith, established on the confession of Jesus as Messiah, the Son of God, and resurrected Lord of heaven and earth. This confession, expressed by Simon Peter in Matthew 16:16-19 and Acts 2:32, is foundational. It declares Jesus is the unique incarnate Word of God, and He lives today, calling all to receive Him as Savior, and as the One to whom all authority has been given.

Our Story

Church of the Cross was originally planted as a mission church of the former Broadway Methodist Church on April 19th, 1959, when a caravan of vehicles, and around 100 people, left the parking lot of Broadway in Toledo's Old South End and drove to the Glendale School and began meeting in the school building. The school was located across the street from our present church location. The church met in Glendale School until 1968 and was originally known as the Glendale extension of the Broadway Methodist Church.

Church of the Cross legally came into existence on June 1st, 1962. The first worship service in the original section of the building occurred in early 1968. Major building additions were also completed in both 1985 and 2001-2002. Church of the Cross disaffiliated from the United Methodist Church in 2022 and is affiliated with the Global Methodist Church.
